The Challenge and Brilliance of Faculty Governance

Tuesday, March 19th: 9:00am – 10:00am MDT (8:00-9:00am PDT, 10:00-11:00am CDT, 11:00-12:00pm EDT)

The role of faculty in higher ed organizations is unlike any role in any other organizational entity. This is partly due to the unique nature of faculty careers and the many ways that faculty play an autonomous role in the institution. However, it is the definition, expectation, and implementation of faculty governance that have the most significant impact on the organizational dynamics of academia.

Understanding faculty governance – what it is, why it’s important, how it is misunderstood, and strategies for working with and within it effectively – is crucial for for both internal and external change agents in academia.

This session will explore the importance and challenges of faculty governance from the perspective of faculty.
